Breaking the rock!

Today was really amazing! What a few days ago was an empty field with a few scrawny trees and a garden patch with nothing in it (since the rabbits ate everything), has been transformed into a serious building site. This huge digger arrived today and after making this hole, attached a jackhammer to break up the huge rock which is under my future house. Apparently I am lucky that the house will sit exactly in this spot because 15 meters to the South is all clay. My house could wash away in one big ‘orage’ (thunderstorm) of which they have many! The spot had already been changed once before because it would have sat on the main water line which serves the village. What a drama that was, and a year’s delay to get yet again a planning permission.

But all that is forgotten now! On y va!! (Let’s go!)

This is what they eventually created after breaking the rock. A little island in the middle of a trench. I have no idea…

My fancy neighbour, the one who lives next to me and spoke to me for the first time yesterday. Today he stopped again and opened the car window and yelled out ‘Courage’, and drove off in his Jaguar. Hahaha

I ended the day by visiting all the people who live below my property whom I have never met, but now  have to listen to the building noise all day long. I gave them each a tin of stroopwafels. They were very sweet and said they weren’t disturbed and were happy for me that I was finally getting my house!
